Is there an ideal word count?
No fixed number. Google ranks the page that best answers the search, and some answers are short. But pages under about 300 words often don't cover a topic fully, especially product, service and guide pages.
Compare your page with the pages that rank for your main search term. If they all explain more, yours probably needs more too.
What this counts
Visible text in the page's HTML: headings, paragraphs, lists, buttons and menus. It skips scripts, styles and hidden code. Text added later by JavaScript isn't counted.
